Water can be one of the most unappreciated necessities of life. I've seen people who drink absolutely no water at all unless they don't have any other options. But water is very important in many ways, and this post will help encourage the less frequent water drinkers to drink water more frequently.

Many studies and research have made it clear enough about the health benefits of drinking water, and staying hydrated is one of the healthiest habits you can adopt today.

Here are 9 ways to drink more water to help you develop that important healthy lifestyle habit:

Drink Water Before Your Meals

drinking water before your meals is healthy for you

A good healthy lifestyle habit to develop is drinking water before your meals. This will not only help you digest your food better but it will also help fill you up, which is a common strategy for those who want to lose weight fast.

Before you have your morning coffee try drinking a glass of water beforehand. It's absolutely fine to drink a glass of water on an empty stomach as well. It not only helps clear your stomach, but it also goes helps reduce the number of potential diseases in the long run.

drink water in the morning its a good habit to get into

First, it helps purify the colon and it improves your stomach's chances to absorb nutrients more properly (which means a better digestive system, giving it a greater ability to take care of other things). And here's what most people don't talk about: It's also one of the lesser known tricks behind a glowing skin, as water helps to remove the toxins from the blood.

Drinking water also helps to improve blood cell reproduction and muscle cells, which will help with weight loss.

Make your Water Taste Delicious

if you want to be consistent try makign your water flavorful

One of my favorite ways to make water taste delicious is to add more flavor to it. The easiest way to do that is probably adding some lemon on top. Cut a lemon into wedges, squeeze them into your glass of water and you can optionally pop the wedges in it as well (you might have came to realize that it's common). As soon as your body needs something new, you can try adding some grapefruit in it to keep your taste buds excited. You can continue to swap out fruits for other fruits to keep it fun and entertaining :)

To create infused water, find a large jug and some water. Prepare your vegetables, fruits, and herbs depending on what they are. Slice the berries so you can access the juice inside, and fruits with harder skin should be peeled first. Vegetables should also be chopped and peeled. Squish your herbs to release the oils and flavors.

Place the ingredients to the bottom of the jug, cover with ice and add your water. After that simply let it chill (pun intended) in the refrigerator for as long as you want until you finally feel like drinking it. The longer it takes in the refridgerator the more those flavors and nutrients get infused.

You can also use an infuser bottle which makes drinking on the go or out of the house easier. Don't have one? Get one here.

Choose a Bottle You Love to Use

You know how they say to switch up your exercise routines every 3 months, to keep your muscles excited? Well, it's a similar strategy we are going to talk about right now.

It's good practice to switch up your water bottle if it bores you, which can worsen your momentum with staying consistent with regularly drinking water. Boring water bottles can get boring way too quick. So the trick is to find a bottle that makes you less bored! Have a look at these water bottles that come in every color. Or... ooooo look at this pretty shiny gradient blue/purple water bottle. So pretty! Or maybe these casual-ish ones might flow along with the theme of your house.

Put Other Drinks On Hold

A neat trick to help you drink more water is to put all of the other drinks you usually consume "on hold". But that doesn't mean that you should place yourself on a leash and force yourself to drink water 100% of the time. But it will help you to reduce chances of consuming those other drinks, so that when you feel thirsty you make the decision placed more towards water. This will eventually increase your water consumption because you're pushing yourself further to get more water into your system when you feel thirsty, as opposed to other drinks (hopefully not alcohol) instead.

Track Your Water Intake

tracking your water intake is a good healthy lifestyle habit to develop

Start by tracking the amount of water you consume for a few days before trying to increase the amount. This will give you the benefit of letting you know how much you are currently drinking on an average day. If the amount is less than approximately 8-10 glasses of water (which is equivalent to 8 ounces for each) a day, you now know how much you need to increase your regular water intake.

Once you get in the feel of tracking daily, it will help you know how much and when to drink more water throughout the day.

Consume Veggies and Fruits with High Water Content

If you think it's too hard to drink enough water, then it's time to bring out plan B: Eat your water, although you should still attempt to drink as much as you can. There are fruits and vegetables that have a tremendous amount of water content in them, helping you to decrease chances of being dehydrated.

Fruits and vegetables with high water content include:

  • Tomato (Water content: 94.5%)
  • Watermelon (Water content: 91.5%)
  • Green Peppers (Water content: 93.9%)
  • Lettuce (Water content: 95.6%)
  • Strawberries (Water content: 91.0%)
  • Celery (Water content: 95.4%)
  • Radish (Water content: 95.3%)
  • Cucumber (Water content: 96.7%)

Diluting Your Juice, When You're Having it

Sometimes we have those moments where we just can't resist the temptations of wanting certain foods or drinks. If you really want a glass of your favorite juice instead of water, you can infuse it with a small amount of water. If you think about it, let's say you have a 12oz glass and you mix water just by a quarter amount, that cup of delicious juice now includes a whopping 4oz of water. It's a neat trick to "sneak" into to your water intake for the day.

Doing so will also benefit you by reducing your sugar, carbs, and calories.

I haven't tried this yet, but I heard good stories about Daily Water Free that will help you set daily reminders and alarms. People like to use this strategy because its simply just fun for them, which makes developing a habit much easier.
